H is noteworthy because it has the most widespread name of all in Mexico: Hernandez. This name is also ranked eleventh in the U.S. census.
Hernandez, of course, is of Spanish origin. But there are also at least four indigenous names in this list. Hoil, Huchim, and Huicab are known to be Mayan. I’ll give their meanings in the sections below. Huelitl is likely Nahuatl.

Hoil is tied to the Yucatan region. The literal meaning is “person from Merida” – Merida is the capital of Yucatan. So, it’s a regional indigenous name unlike most of the names of Spanish origin.
Huchin is another Mayan name in this section. As an ancient name, there are debates around the meaning. Some refer to the word huch which means “to grind”.
